Angel in Charge

Authors: Judy Delton and Leslie Holt Morrill
Average review score:

A book perfectly meant for young readers.
I read ''Angel in Charge'' to my 7 year old sister. She thought it was okay,I guess. It wasn't the best book I ever read, but for a young age group, well I guess it's okay for them.Since it DOESN'T have hard words or a complicated plot it would be a good chapter book for 9 year olds and up to start reading by themselves.

Authentic Mexican Cooking
Published in Paperback by Simon & Schuster (Paper) (November, 1984)
Authors: Paula Holt, Helene Juarez, and Helen Juarez

Not Quick, But Well Worth The Effort
Authentic Mexican Cooking is exactly that . . .Authentic Mexican! Growing up in Southern California, I was raised on beans, chiles, shredded beef, tamales and tortillas. When I moved away from California, I was very disappointed with the quality of Mexican food available. So, I resorted to cooking it myself. To date, I have purchased one Mexican cookbook -- Authentic Mexican Cooking. Suprisingly, I have yet to be disappointed with anything I have made. The results are fabulous!

The Ropa Vieja is wonderful, the Sopa de Tortilla Yucatan tasty, the Arroz con Pollo delectable, and the Arroz Mexicana is the best I've ever had. Ironically, I'm not even fond of rice, but it comes out wonderful every time I prepare it.

Though I *love* this cookbook, I will forewarn you. Many of the recipes, albeit easy to prepare, are time consuming. Moreover, quite a few of them do call for the addition of lard. If you're looking for a low cal book, this is not the one. However, it's the lard that makes many of the dishes taste so good and authentic.

Overall, the recipes in this book are not necessarily quick to prepare, but the results are well worth the effort!

Balanced Bowhunting
Published in Paperback by High Country Pub (November, 1988)
Author: Dave Holt
Average review score:

Outstanding source of data on principles of archery
While somewhat dated vis-a-vis current trends in bow and arrow design and construction, this book effectively relates principles of archery and how to make them work for you. The author has broken these principles down so that even a novice will come away with an accute understanding of what factors make arrows fly true. Two thumbs up!

This is not a bad book, but the thing is... the glossory sometimes don't have the word that I want. But the great thing about this book is that has good info... but sometimes is has to be more clear with discriptions. Their goal should be let the student get the info in their head not to make so hard like if it was a brain twister.

The Blue Rose
Published in Hardcover by Lawrence Hill & Co (October, 1974)
Authors: Gerda Weissman Klein and Norma Holt
Average review score:

A place in this world
I loved the way that the author created a special place in society for the mentally retarded. Jenny was a flower in bloom and only needed someone to notice. She had special gifts and unique ways of relating to her world. If only Jenny would be allowed to grow and receive the proper care and attention like a flower, she could become something special like a blue rose.

The Bowhunter's Handbook: Expert Strategies & Techniques

An eyeopener
Coming from England where bow hunting is illegal, this book was an eye opener to me. The book deals with all types of statergies involved in bow hunting, from concealment to stalking, equipment and camoflage, watching and calling. Each huntable four legged game is shown and analysed by its size, habitat and habits. They detail the senses of each species whether they rely primarily on sight, hearing or smell. Tactics and techniques are discussed after a short description of each animal hunted. Being from England I felt a little sad at the thought of trophy hunting such beasts, so did the authors, although they had experienced the hunt too. The book is very saftey concious through out and tries to put over the right and wrong ways to preserve the sport in the public eyes. Although I said the book turned me soft the whole approach was realistic and to any bow hunter anywhere it must be read for the drops of intelligence and understanding of your sport.

The Brief but Useful Holt Handbook
The Brief Holt Handbook is a very useful tool when it comes to writing English papers, or a paper for any other subject. I feel all college students who take writing seriously and need some help with their grammer, should go buy this book.

Caroline, the Queen (Georgian Saga, Vol 3)
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group (June, 1986)
Authors: Jean Plaidy, Victoria Holt, and Philippa Carr
Average review score:

All in the Family
In this book, one begins to understand the long history of scandals in the family of Britain's monarchs. Elizabeth II's 'annus horribilis' is not an isolated event but an on-going saga of sexual high jinx and jealousies that have been a part of the British royal family for centuries.

Unlike their German cousins, the British people have an equally long-standing tradition of lampooning and laughing at the follies of their monarchs. Tabloid journalism was alive and well as far back as the early days of the House of Hanover.

The long-suffering Queen Caroline does her duty to the best of her abilities-gently leading her arrogant and insecure husband, George II, into doing the right thing in spite of himself. But the need for a government, independent of the whims and follies of the monarch, is by now most evident. The evolution of power centered in the Prime Minister and Parliament, and the ability of the British people to not take their leaders too seriously, is the reason England ruled a mighty Empire while Germany floundered and fell in two world wars.

Jean Plaidy not only has a gift for making history easy to read, but easy to understand. This book should be read after "Queen in Waiting."
